Specifications & benchmarks

The pen, measured.

Before you buy a pen that watches how you write, you deserve plain answers: what it captures, how long it writes, how fast it charges, and how honest the numbers are. Here they are.

208/smotion snapshots every second, fast enough to catch what a camera misses
16 axesof movement, pressure and direction from a single natural stroke
~15 hof continuous writing on one charge
~2 hfrom empty to a full battery

Writing quality

What the pen actually captures

Six things about your writing, in plain words. Together they are the raw material for every report the analyser gives you.

Pressure Control

How firmly the tip meets the paper, and how steadily you hold that pressure through a word.

Pen Control

The angle you hold the pen at and how well you keep it, a quiet signature of grip and comfort.

Writing Speed

How fast the tip travels, stroke by stroke, and where you slow down or rush.

Writing Flow

The natural pace and continuity of your strokes: fluent and even, or hesitant and effortful.

Hand Stability

Steadiness of the hand while writing, smooth control versus shake and wobble.

Smoothness

How cleanly each stroke starts, turns and ends, without jerks or corrections.

Specifications

What is inside, on the pen itself

Hover a specification and see where it lives in the barrel. Every part earns its place.

1

Pressure sensor in the tip

Feels how firmly the tip meets the paper, stroke by stroke. It also tells the pen exactly when writing starts and stops, the anchor for faithful reconstruction.

2

Motion sensor near the tip

The first of two independent motion sensors. Sitting close to the tip, it feels the fine finger movements that draw each letter.

3

A standard refill

Real ink on any paper, any notebook, any form. No dot-pattern paper, no tablet, no screen, and the refill is a standard size you can buy anywhere.

4

Brain: MCU + Bluetooth Low Energy

A low-power ARM microcontroller with the radio on the same chip captures 208 motion snapshots per second and streams them live to your phone or laptop.

5

Offline memory

Around 19 hours of pure writing stored on the pen itself, several weeks of normal daily notes. No connection needed while you write; sync whenever you like.

6

Motion sensor near the top

The second viewpoint. Two sensors on one rigid barrel see every stroke from two points, which is what makes faithful reconstruction possible, plus a compass for orientation.

7

One light, one meaning

A single colour light tells you everything: recording, battery, charging, pairing, or a warning. One meaning per colour, documented in the manual.

8

USB-C & battery

Charges over USB-C in about 2 hours, writes for around 15 hours non-stop. Overcharge protection is built in twice, in hardware and in the pen's own software.

Battery & charging

Writes all day. Charges over lunch.

Continuous writing

Around 15 hours of non-stop recording on one charge. Nobody writes 15 hours straight; that is the point.

A typical day

With a couple of hours of writing a day, expect roughly four days between charges.

On the shelf

A charged pen left in a drawer keeps its charge for weeks to months.

Full charge

About 2 hours over USB-C, from empty to full.

Forgot it on the charger?

Safe. Charging stops automatically when the battery is full. Protection is built in twice, once in the charging hardware and once in the pen's own software, and each layer works even if the other fails.

Low battery

The pen warns you early, saves everything, and shuts down cleanly before the battery can be damaged. Your notes are never the price of an empty battery.

Scripts & dimensions

Any script. A normal pen.

Scripts

Motion capture is script-neutral by design. The analyser currently reads five Indic scripts, with more in training.

Size & weight

A normal pen in the hand. Final production dimensions will be published at launch; shrinking both without giving up accuracy is an explicit design goal.

Everyday life

Built for real hands, including small ones

A pen lives a rough life. It gets dropped, shaken, chewed, forgotten in bags, and borrowed by children. We test for that life deliberately.

Drops

A fall from desk height is detected in flight, and the pen recovers on its own at the next start with your notes intact.

In the backpack

A pen rattling around in a bag does not wake up and drain itself; it knows the difference between a bumpy ride and writing.

Rough handling

Banging, shaking or tapping the pen does not corrupt what you wrote. Kid-tested behaviour is a design requirement, not an accident.

Heat

Writing while charging on a warm day stays well inside safe limits. If the pen ever gets genuinely hot, it warns you first and only stops if it must.

How we measure, honestly. The numbers on this page come from our engineering bench and from a full simulation of the pen's electronics that we run on every code change, using the same power figures our hardware is designed to. Pre-production hardware confirms them; final retail units will be re-measured and this page updated at launch. Where a number is a target rather than a measurement, we say so.
